The Corset Diet: Kim Kardashian's trick to weight loss

With a wedding 6 weeks away, Kim Kardashian is reportedly sleeping in a corset to get rid of stubborn baby fat after giving birth to her first child. Kim Kardashian’s trick to weight loss is not as new or wacky as it might sound.
The newly named "Corset Diet" is the same method that pin-up models like Betty Brosmer above used in the 1950's but then it was called waist training and it is believed to be how Romanian model Ioana Spangenberg achieved her now famous 20 inch waistline.

According to some experts the Corset Diet can actually modify your waist 4 to 5 inches.

Some other reasons it works is because it's so tight around the tummy that it limits your capacity of food and gives you feeling of fullness sooner. Especially true if you only eat when wearing the corset.
It will also improve your posture to elongate the torso's appearance
Before you rush to get behind this body modifcation trend you must know that not just any corset will do. Corsets are usually made with boning inserted into a flexible material. You may even come across the steel boned corset – it is the boning that keeps everything in place.
As if the boning were not enough, someone decided to add lace ties from top to bottom. Check out this film clip from Gone with the Wind when Scarlet needs to hold on to the bed to get into hers. Adding these ties could sometimes get the waistline down to 14 inches, which of course led to heaving breasts and popular “fainting rooms.” Yes, all due to the corset.

For a more comfortable compression garment available today online check out the ShapeBand ($54.90) available at HourglassAngel.com along with other sites for postpartum belly shapers or girdles. One more photo of Betty for inspiration sake!

2 million views for A Model's Secrets - beauty blog!

Thank you for choosing to read this blog! I write and share information that I have learned as a model, with the hope that you might find some value for yourself  on this journey to having a more beautiful life.

A Model's Secrets was started after I published my book Face This: Real Advice from Real Models. Even if no-one wanted to read my posts, I wanted to write. The success of this beauty blog never ceases to surprise me and that I feel like I can make a difference in this little way to inspire and empower. I joke .. all you ever wanted to know about everything that's not really important! Afterall, my comparison is the doctor husband I love who saves lives for a living.

But, what I have found out is that this beauty stuff is important. Feeling beautiful makes us become more confident and confidence is attractive! Knowing what celebrities and models do to look their best helps us do that. We are all drawn to beauty, connected to it and it's origin. Whether that be a painting, a person or a kiss. We are like moths to a flame to learn more about the source.

I think that the Internet and this platform  enables real women to open up and join in the conversation to understand that even supermodels feel insecure and rely on tricks and tips. The world of beauty is not so intimidating when you understand the illusions that can help keep you looking radiant, and that true beauty really starts from the inside out - even photoshop can't give your eyes that magic twinkle like genuine happy does. The right lighting helps too which is why I want YOU to know how to get in it.

I hope in the coming year I can heat things up, with more beauty - mind - body image topics and discussions. It took over a year to hit 1,000,000 views, but only 6 months to get to 2 million so I will continue to write. Check in with me before it hits 3, I promise to do my best to make in fun and of course beautiful.

XO

Models Over 40 Then and Now - More Magazine Beauty Search!

Left to Right: Stephanie, Linda, Claudia, and Christy
These supermodels are all grown up, but their beauty is timeless! Scroll down to see what they look like today for proof.

Although difficult to become a model at any age More Magazine can give you a lucky break .... but only if you're over 30!

You have until April 17th to upload a photo for More's 5th annual Beauty Search and tell your story to win a trip to NYC and photo shoot for a spread in the magazine along with cash plus other prizes.  My friends and I used to say we never knew anyone who actually ever won a contests like this, but in 2010 it was me! More Magazine's first GRAND PRIZE Beauty Search Winner.

Click {HERE} to enter this year's contest, and it could be YOU!

When I was modeling in the 80's, it was the super-model era and the competition was fierce. Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington ... but today, there is no longer a glut of gorgeous models in my age range, in fact the older I get the less competitive it becomes. Plus it is unlikely that the baby boomers, now ages 50-70 are willing to be sold by a 20 something year old advertising a face cream. I hadn't thought of getting back into the industry until after I won this contest. The truth is, "I feel more in demand now than I ever did in my twenties."

If 40 is the new 20, then 50 shall be the new 50 - at least it will be this September when I celebrate mine, because I look better than ever and it shows! Check out some other models who look better than ever ... over 40.

Christie Brinkley age 60

Cindy Crawford age 48

Elle Macpherson age 50

Claudia Schiffer age 44

 Naomi Campbell age 44

Lauren Hutton age 70

Stephanie Seymour age 45

Heidi Klum age 40
