How to Make your Hair Extensions Last Longer.

There are 2 very important tips when it comes to taking care of your hair extensions that you probably haven't heard about, but I guarantee it is the best advice you will get if you want to make your temporary hair extensions to have a longer life!

BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH
Just like a dentist tells you to brush your teeth after eating, so will a hair extension expert explain that brushing multiple times during the day is the number one way to make sure your extensions stay untangled, silky and shiny. What happens is that when you have a lot of hair fixed on your scalp in an extension design and you move your head side-to-side it can easily get tangled. Add to that your own natural fall of of your real hair and you can end up with a mess. This is why brushing often is so important for maintenance. Try to keep a small brush in your purse and take it out every time you use the ladies room to give a quick run through your locks. [Or if you really listen to your dentist brush your hair and your teeth together every time after eating.] If your extensions are tangly start at the bottom and work your way upward while brushing down. This one step alone will make your extensions last twice as long as they would otherwise. I personally love using the Wet Brush, and their mini "Squirt" version for this purpose.

DO NOT WASH
I know it might seem gross, but washing your extension too much is one of the worst things you can do if you want them to last longer.  This the on of the most mis-understood hair care advice I can give you. Hair extensions, even though made with real human hair, will not receive any natural oils from your scalp and won't need to be washed frequently, especially if you are using clip ins or my personal favorite, Hidden Crown with an invisible wire halo-design. In fact, washing them too often will dry them out. Even if you are wearing them every day, you should be able to go a couple of months without washing. If you wear your hair curly one day and want it straight the next, it's better to flat iron - not to wash it. Or jUZzz it up with a spritz of water and let it air dry before styling.

Have you tried the hottest, newest extension design on the market yet?

Enter the 2015 More Magazine Beauty Search : WOMEN with MORE Ambition, Beauty, Style and Passion!

To enter this year's 2015 contest click [HERE]

5 years ago I entered More Magazine's Beauty Search Contest and was chosen as the first ever Grand Prize Winner. It started just like this ... I saw the contest and decided to enter. What happened next?

I flew to New York City and used the money I won to self publish my book Face This: Real Advice from Real Models and began writing this blog. Winning also launched me back into the modeling world full time at age 45 with campaigns for the Four Seasons, Cover Girl and Olay. I appeared on covers of magazines and co-hosted a morning show for ABC along with becoming a nationally known beauty expert. And it all started with this single entry to a beauty search for More Magazine in 2010. I encourage you to enter !

POSING LIKE A MODEL - HOW TO TAKE GREAT PICTURES FOR THE RED CARPET - PROM - WEDDINGS - INSTAGRAM or FACEBOOK

Shelley Goodstein & Dr Kevin Pounds
I've had my share of red carpet photo ops. Being a model certainly helps when it comes to knowing how to pose year after year. So I thought I'd share a few tricks I've learned for perfect red carpet moments.  Besides sucking it in and good posture, here's how to pull off a perfect pic!

The Classic.
This is your fail safe, go-to pose. Turn to an angle, one foot in front of the other - one leg bent and one hand on the hip! This might be the absolute, most photographed pose of ALL time. Definitely flattering for any "booty"!

Cross your legs.
Yes, imagine you are in need of a bathroom and VOILA you have the super slimming forward facing pose.

Unladylike - Legs apart.
JLow repeats this pose often and may be one of the few that can get away with it. Keep in mind this pose is only flattering from the right angle though HINT: Always know where the camera is. Your legs appear slimmer because of the space between. Point your front foot.

The BFF pose
Let's face it, life and photos are always better with your bestie by your side. Plus if you're the "smarter" friend, you'll cheat yourself a little behind to hide a little extra-whatever. This pose always works well as long as you both don't have the same "better" side!

Twice as nice. Double bent arms.

For this you need the perfect dress and the confidence of a warrior princess or Greek goddess!

Avoid a seated pose - standing will always look more flattering ... unless of course you are half naked with this crew at a bonfire in Puerto Rico!

Hello Beautiful! 4 million views at A Model's Secrets blog by Shelley Goodstein

Book Launch - February 2011

Milestones ... these are the moments in life we pause and breathe in, cherish and remember.

My little blog, A Model's Secrets, hit 4 million views today, and for this I am extremely grateful. It reminds me of how far this journey has brought me.

I began my blog to help promote my book and to empower women to look their best using the tricks that models use and have access to. I had no idea that such a simple way of sharing secrets, could bring so many wonderful women and sisterhood to my life.

My purpose is to help everyday women look and feel more beautiful, more confident because they too know the tricks that celebrities and models use to look their best. It's no secret that if you feel good about yourself inside, it will emanate outside.

Thank you for logging in, visiting and leaving your comments. For sharing and caring.

XOXO

Ketchup for Green Hair and more DIY natural Beauty Recipes that really Work!

Most blondes will tell you that they are very careful about avoiding too much pool time in the summer for fear of the "martian" effect on their locks. You might be surprised to learn that the real culprit in this is COPPER. And if you have copper pipes you might end up with that green tint as well.

Chlorine does play a part however, in that the copper in the water will be oxidized by the chlorine and causes binding of proteins to the hair shaft, turning it green.

An easy DIY at home fix? Ketchup! The tomatoes and the vinegar will neutralize this chemical reaction. Simply use ketchup on your hair, wrap with plastic or a shower cap. Leave on for 20 minutes and shampoo out.

Here are a few more inexpensive recipes to help with common hair problems that I shared yesterday with the viewers of ARIZONA Midday on Channel 12 in Phoenix using all natural ingredients you can find in the grocery store. Watch the video below.
