Grounding for An Inner Glow: How Earthing Enhances Beauty and Well Being.

In today's fast-paced, digital world, we often find ourselves disconnected from nature's healing energy. I am especially guilty of spending hours indoors entertained by a screen, whether my computer or phone, and it causes me to overlook the benefits of connecting with the natural world around me. However, there is a simple and accessible practice that can help us tap into the Earth's natural energy - it's called grounding or earthing. By walking barefoot on grass, sand, dirt, or rock, we can experience a range of benefits that alleviate chronic pain, fatigue, and other common ailments that affect so many women today.

Understanding Grounding:

Grounding is the act of physically connecting with the Earth's surface, allowing the energy from the planet to flow into our bodies. This practice has gained attention in recent years due to its potential implications for our physical and mental well-being. As women, we often juggle multiple responsibilities, and grounding provides us with a way to recharge and restore our energy levels. You can do it by simply swimming in a large body of water or walking on the grass. The Earth has a more negative charge that can lower the your body's levels of inflammation and oxidative stress, and by grounding ourselves, we can absorb these electrons, bringing our bodies back into balance.

The Benefits of Grounding:

  • Reduced Inflammation: (Menigoz et al 2020, Oschman et al 2015) Inflammation is a natural response of the immune system to protect the body from injury, infection, or other harmful stimuli. However, chronic inflammation can contribute to various health issues. Grounding is believed to have anti-inflammatory effects by helping to rebalance the body's electrical charge and to reduce excessive inflammation. Additionally, grounding may help regulate cortisol levels, the main stress hormone, which can impact inflammation in the body.

  • Reduces Oxidative stress: (Sinatra et al 2017) Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can cause damage to cells, DNA, and other biomolecules. Oxidative stress has been linked to various health issues such as inflammation, aging, and chronic diseases.

  • Improved Sleep Quality: (Gaétan Chevalier, PhD et al 2012) As women, we often face sleep disturbances due to hormonal changes or busy lifestyles. Grounding has been found to have a positive impact on sleep by regulating the body's biological clock, also known as the circadian rhythm. By reconnecting to the Earth's energy, grounding can help balance our internal systems, promoting restful and rejuvenating sleep and enabling us to wake up refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

  • Stress Reduction and Mood: (Ghaly, M., & Teplitz, D. 2004) Women often experience high levels of stress, whether from work, family, or personal demands. Grounding allows us to reconnect with nature and find solace in the present moment. The Earth's energy has a grounding effect, helping us feel centered and calm. Incorporating grounding into our self-care routines can serve as a natural stress relief, fostering emotional balance, and providing mental clarity during challenging times.

  • Enhanced Immune System Function: (Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2010) A strong immune system is essential for women's health and well-being. Grounding has shown potential in improving immune system function by reducing free radicals and increasing antioxidants in the body. By allowing the Earth's energy to flow through us, grounding provides a natural boost to our immune system, helping it function more effectively and supporting our overall immune defenses.

  • Reduces blood viscosity (Chevalier et al 2013) Blood viscosity refers to the thickness and stickiness of blood. When we are in direct contact with the earth's surface, it is believed that we absorb negatively charged electrons from the Earth. These electrons have antioxidant properties and can neutralize free radicals in our bodies, thus reducing inflammation and improving blood flow. This study found that grounding, either by walking barefoot outside or using conductive systems indoors, led to a thinning of the blood and a decrease in blood viscosity.

Incorporating grounding into my life has allowed me to reconnect with nature, replenish my energy, and find inner balance. Our modern lifestyle, which often involves limited contact with the Earth's surface, can lead to an accumulation of positive electrical charges in our bodies. Grounding is thought to balance these charges by allowing excess positive electrons to flow into the Earth, which may have a positive impact on our well-being.

Ideally, choose natural environments for grounding, such as grassy areas, sandy beaches, or unpaved soil. These surfaces tend to have better conductivity, allowing you to absorb the Earth's energy more effectively. However, if natural options are limited, even walking barefoot on concrete can still have some benefits.

So, the next time you have the opportunity, I encourage you to take off your shoes and step onto the Earth's surface. Allow yourself to be embraced by the healing power of grounding, reestablishing a connection with the Earth's energy to experience firsthand the revitalizing effects of grounding, and let nature support you on your journey to optimal health!

Much Love,

Shelley

The Skincare Trend You Need to Know About: Skin Cycling

Hey gorgeous, have you heard of skin cycling? It's the latest skincare craze that's taking the beauty world by storm! If you're tired of applying the same skincare products day in and day out, then you need to give skin cycling a try. So, what exactly is skin cycling? Well, it's a skincare technique where you alternate your favorite products every few days instead of using them all at once. This gives your skin some much-needed rest days and allows the ingredients in your products to work their magic.
Dr. Whitney Bowe, a top New York City dermatologist, is credited with coining the term "skincycling." According to her, it's a great way to get a more fully rounded skincare routine. By strategically alternating your products, you can address a variety of skin concerns like dryness, acne, and uneven skin tone. But wait, there's more! Skin cycling also helps to prevent your skin from becoming too dependent on certain ingredients. Just like how your body can become resistant to antibiotics, your skin can become resistant to skincare ingredients if you use them too often. By cycling your products, you can avoid this and keep your skin looking its best. Now, you may be wondering how to get started with skin cycling. Well, it's simple! Just take a look at your current skincare routine and divide your products into categories. For example, you might have a cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer. Then, use each category of products for a few days at a time before switching to the next category. One important thing to keep in mind is to pay attention to your skin's reaction. If you notice any irritation or breakouts, it's a sign that a particular product might not be suitable for your skin. In that case, you might want to skip that product altogether or use it less frequently. In conclusion, skin cycling is a fantastic way to give your skin some rest days and get the most out of your favorite skincare products. So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try and see the difference for yourself! Your skin will thank you.

Until next time, stay beautiful!

XOXO

A single drop for bigger eyes lasting 8 hours- Yes Please!

BIGGER EYES with NEW FDA DROP

Are you tired of looking TIRED all the time with droopy eyelids that make you appear older than you are? Do you have one eye smaller than another? Suffer from redness? If so I have the newest latest and greatest fix and it's just a single eyedrop recently approved by the FDA! The retail cost is about $7 per vial and contains 4 drops.

To use, simply put one drop in the eye. Close eyelid and roll your eyeball around for 20 seconds. The effect can take up to 2 hours to work, although I saw results within 25 minutes. It should last up to 8 hours.

You can use it for one eye or both eyes to get bigger, brighter eyes for a special night out, photo shoots or that date night on your calendar!

Scroll down to learn how to order it online but first let me tell you about how it works.

The method of action of Upneeq is simple yet effective. When you apply the medication to your eye, it causes the blood vessels in the eye to constrict, which reduces the amount of blood flow to the area. This results in a reduction in redness and swelling, as well as an improvement in the appearance of the eye. Upneeq also works by constricting the muscles that control the eyelids, which can help lift droopy eyelids and open up your eyes.

While Upneeq can be a great solution for many people, there are some contraindications to be aware of. Upneeq should not be used by individuals who have a history of hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in Upneeq. Additionally, Upneeq should not be used by individuals who have narrow-angle glaucoma or have a history of angle-closure glaucoma. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you should also consult with your healthcare provider before using Upneeq.

Aside from its medical benefits, Upneeq also offers cosmetic benefits. Many people who use Upneeq report that it helps them look more alert, awake, and youthful. By lifting the eyelids and reducing redness, Upneeq can help you look and feel your best.

I found the easiest way to order online is through Skin Solutions MD Buy Upneeq here. They will ask you questions to make sure you do not take certain meds that could be problematic. They will ask for your doctors name but they do not contact your doctor it's just to keep on file.

After you check out they will ask you join a video chat with a nurse practitioner on your phone. You may wait a couple of minutes but not long. Answer a few questions, show them your ID and that's it. They'll arrive in your mailbox and you're ready to feel prettier. After all big eyes have long been associated with attractiveness.

Your Welcome!

Walk in Heels like a Supermodel - Tips from the Runway

Shelley Goodstein Dec 2014

I have to admit, I banned myself from runway modeling for a few years because I had a tremendous fear of falling from the sky high heels required to walk in these shows. The photo above is from a couple months ago  - I guess this goes to show that I've learned a few things over the years to help me get "back on the horse."

In the words of Right Said Fred,  "I'm a model if you know what I mean. And I do my little turn on the catwalk, Yeah on the catwalk!"

Some tips to walking in heels:
  • Buy your sky high heels a half size too small. All my runway shoes are just a tad small. After all you're not buying stilettos for comfort anyway. This way your foot and shoe plant solidly together and there is no risk of one stepping out without the other. You know Cinderella would concur!

  • Lean into your hips and push off your back foot for a long, graceful stride.

  • Posture is key and this goes straight to confidence. Chin should be parallel to the ground. Shoulders back and arms should be ever so slightly bent at the elbows behind you.

  • You should be walking in a straight line with one foot in front of the other  -landing on the ball of your foot. Don't let your feet cross over each other.

  • Practice makes perfect!!!

XOXO,
Shelley

2 million views for A Model's Secrets - beauty blog!

Thank you for choosing to read this blog! I write and share information that I have learned as a model, with the hope that you might find some value for yourself  on this journey to having a more beautiful life.

A Model's Secrets was started after I published my book Face This: Real Advice from Real Models. Even if no-one wanted to read my posts, I wanted to write. The success of this beauty blog never ceases to surprise me and that I feel like I can make a difference in this little way to inspire and empower. I joke .. all you ever wanted to know about everything that's not really important! Afterall, my comparison is the doctor husband I love who saves lives for a living.

But, what I have found out is that this beauty stuff is important. Feeling beautiful makes us become more confident and confidence is attractive! Knowing what celebrities and models do to look their best helps us do that. We are all drawn to beauty, connected to it and it's origin. Whether that be a painting, a person or a kiss. We are like moths to a flame to learn more about the source.

I think that the Internet and this platform  enables real women to open up and join in the conversation to understand that even supermodels feel insecure and rely on tricks and tips. The world of beauty is not so intimidating when you understand the illusions that can help keep you looking radiant, and that true beauty really starts from the inside out - even photoshop can't give your eyes that magic twinkle like genuine happy does. The right lighting helps too which is why I want YOU to know how to get in it.

I hope in the coming year I can heat things up, with more beauty - mind - body image topics and discussions. It took over a year to hit 1,000,000 views, but only 6 months to get to 2 million so I will continue to write. Check in with me before it hits 3, I promise to do my best to make in fun and of course beautiful.
